Mark is Principal and Design Director for PointOfView. He is responsible for all creative direction. Mark’s background is in furniture design, but has been working as an architectural lighting designer for over 15 years. The product design background means that mark brings both an enhanced understanding of light, but also brings materiality and detailed design to every project.
Mark has worked on a diverse range of projects, which enables him to draw on skills and applications from one sector to another leading new approaches to old problems and innovative resolutions, Amongst Marks notable projects are Hotel Puerta America, Madrid, Qantas First Class Lounge Sydney, City of Dreams, Macau, Hong Kong Airport Expansion, Yauatcha restaurant London, Morimoto Restaurant NYC, Dubai Festival City. He has collaborated with world leading designers and architects such as Zaha Hadid, Jean Nouvel, John Pawson, Tadao Ando and Christian Liagre. The key to his involvement in any project is the understanding of the interplay of light with space, artificial or natural and how light influences human behaviour and the influence lighting has on the experience of a space.
Recognised as a leading designer working with light, in Australia and internationally, his diversity of work and innovative design approach sets him apart from his peers.
Extensive experience in hospitality projects has grown a deep understanding of the human psychology with light, and the ability to draw people to places through visual hierarchy and the encouragement of visual journey through a space; these are critical components to urban lighting design.
Beyond the creative aspects of this industry, Mark has a clear understanding of the commercial realities of project work, and has demonstrated, through the commercial success of completed projects, that his involvement to add to the financial viability of projects.
